Mile 55.9
Day 4 Summary
+ High: Awesome view of Oriflamme Canyon
- Low: It was frustratingly windy
• Best gear: Big Agnus Flying Creek UL2 Tent (the wind broke one of the guide line but it holds together pretty well under the situation)
• Worse gear: Dirty Girl Gaiter. It cause heat rashes on my feet. Too hot for me.
I headed out with Michael from Mt. Laguna Lodge around 7:30. Heading to Scissor Crossing. It was a super windy day. The trail went through Sawtooth Mountain Wilderness, Cuyamaca Ranchi State Park, and Anza-Borrega Desert Sate Park. The scenes were unbelievably spectacular. When we reached mile 53.3, the wind was so strong that I could barely stand straight.
We arrived our camp site around 5. The wind was not stoping. It was hard to set the tent up and I was really frustrated. I sat in the tent and listened to the wind banging my tent fly, I really really wanted to cry. “How am I going to sleep under this situation?” “Is my tent going to be able to hold together through the night?” Finally the tear dropped into my dinner pot. I felt overwhelmed and sad. Suddenly the trip was not fun anymore. I indulged myself in the sadness for about 10 mins and grabbed my sketchpad and went out of my tent to sit on a giant rock and did a sketch of the view. I made my peace with the evening through the drawing.
I slept surprisingly well through the night with my earplugs in. Next day I woke up to this incredible Oriflamme Canyon under me. “Everything will be OK.” I told myself. It was my first breakdown and I think I managed it Ok.
